Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in the town of Vinci, near Florence. Leonardo was an exceptional boy for his time. Leonardo was introduced to Andre del Verrocchio, an Italian painter and sculptor. Leonardo was Verrocchio’s assistant. While living in Milan, Italy, Leonardo created one of his masterpieces, The Last Supper. Leonardo used two techniques, sfumato and chiaroscuro, while creating the Mona Lisa. He experimented into his works of nature with the stratification of rocks, flow of water, growth of plants, and the action of light. The Mona Lisa, was known for its technical innovations and its mysteriousness as the smiling subject. Christ is isolated in the center of the three groups. The Mona Lisa, took Leonardo three years to create, but those three years made the Mona Lisa one of his most celebrated portraits ever painted. He had contributions in the areas of art, science, and humanity. There have been many attempts to restore his mural, but they had to reverse some of the damage.
Leonardo spent his last years between Milan and Florence visiting his half brothers and sisters.
