Just as I figured the worst was in the past a new headline runs on the bottom of the screen. All I kept thinking to myself was “this is a nightmare, there is no way in hell this could be happening”. People jumping hundreds of stories to their own death.
I sat there and just watched those two massive structures smoke for forty minutes, until the unthinkable happened, the News station switched over live to Washington where the Pentagon had been hit by yet another plane. I picked up my phone and called my mother at work to tell her what was happening, but the line was busy, so I called my father and right when I started talking to him, there were people jumping out of the windows from the remaining north tower. The thing that got me the most nervous was the fact that the two planes that crashed in to the World Trade Center took off from Logan International airport in Boston, which is just 93 miles from my house. Upon hitting the ground the debris and dust came up in the air like a mushroom cloud, and all of Manhattan was covered in this dark cloud.
A lot of times some good comes out of the bad, our extremely diverse nation was hand in hand praying and mourning together, while we also became more patriotic, and appreciated our country and each other. I could think about was what it would have been like to be in one of those planes, or in the building being hit. I felt disgusted that someone could plan this and then go through with it right under our noses.
