Born in the Midland mining village of East-wood, Nottinghamshire, D. H. Lawrence was the son of a coal-miner. His mother was a middle-class woman and school teacher. His output of literature include poems, stories, novelettes, . His first published work was a group of poems which appeared in the English Review for November 1909, and next February he published his first short story. After the war, they led a wandering life, living briefly in Germany, Austria, Italy, England, France, Australia, New Zealand and American. And the experience of his childhood had a deep influence upon his life. In the meantime, he began to write and published literary works. In 1912, he met Frieda bon Richthofen, a German noblewoman and the wife of a professor at Nottingham University. In 1914-1918, Lawrence?s objection to World War I and his wife?s German origin caused them a lot of trouble with the British authorities. They helplessly fell in love, eloped to Europe, and got married to 1914 when Frieda was divorced by her husband. After receiving education at local schools and at Nottingham University College, Lawrence worked first as a clerk and then as an elementary school teacher (1902-1906). On March 2, 1930, Lawrence died of tuberculosis in the south of France at the age of 44.
