While attending the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art I was fascinated by all the different styles, textures, and materials that where used to make art. But of all the extraordinary works of art on display perhaps one of the smaller pieces was the one that had the biggest impact on me. In this art criticism paper about Jackson Pollock's, Silver and Black Diptych, exhibited in the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, a description, interpretation and summary will help the reader understand and appreciate this 1950 work of art. This piece of art created by Jackson Pollock in 1950 is an oil paint and metal on a canvas. The artwork measures exactly 11 1/2 x 17 inches. The white canvas is painted in Pollock's signature way of flinging, dribbling, and puddling the paint across the canvas. It wasn't until around the mid 1940's that Pollock was painting in a complete abstract manner. Today their home in Long Island has been turned into the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center. On the right side of the divider in the lower right hand corner is where the most paint is applied, mostly black and silver. Jackson Pollock is perhaps the most commanding artist of the Abstract Expressionist movement, he is also considered to be one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Pollock will always be remembered best for his famous "drip" techniques, SUMMARY This work of art is a great example of both a collage and action in a painting. An extremely dark red and peach color is used sporadically throughout the canvas as well. In 1944 Pollock married another Abstract painter named Lee Krasner. INTERPRETATION Jackson Pollock was born in 1912 in Cody, Wyoming. he title of the piece Silver and Black Diptych, "diptych" meaning two.
