Differences and Similarities in Lawyers and Law Enforcement

American society presents two conflicting images of law. First, law is subordinate to

society and may be overthrown if it fails to meet social needs. The government is dependent on

its ability to support human freedom. The law regulates the relationships in society concerning

property, wealth, and commerce, which are central to the general welfare of society. The legal

system is backed by the repressive power of the state. It is tempered by popular demand to do

justice. These statements concern those of law enforcement and lawyers.

Lawyers and law enforcement have many differences and similarities in the way they deal

Lawyers and law enforcement must follow the laws with rules and procedures that come

with the law. They must follow a code of ethics. Law enforcement’s code of ethics states: “It is

their right duty to serve mankind, safe guard lives and property. They will keep their personal

lives out of their work and be honest in thought and deed in both personal and office life. They

must keep a confidential trust to whom needs it. T

. . .

It’s the lawyers job to do whatever it takes to a point to make their clients happy.

Dawson and Downey, even though they were law enforcement, followed their code of ethics and

committed a crime. Law enforcement prevents harm and damage from society while a lawyer is always

the weapon, an instrument for threatening harm and inflicting damage. Examples are drug officers, parole officers,

undercover officers, military, etc.

The movie “A Few Good Men” shows how law enforcement and lawyers work together. Both law enforcement and lawyers have specialized

areas that they have the most knowledge to work. Demi Moore and Tom Cruise, as lawyers, had to prove what Dawson and Downey did,

even though wrong, shouldn’t be punished for what they did because it was an order.

Therefore, the marines believed it wasn’t wrong.

Law enforcement is their to help and protect all of society and lawyers aren’t always their

to help law enforcement serve justice for society, they are their to help single clients get justice on one another.

The difference in these codes is the lawyer doesn’t have to be honest in thought and deed.

The purpose of lawyers and law enforcement is to serve justice. Lawyers try to settle disputes

between people “regulating relationship”.

This proves that lawyers and law enforcement still follow their codes of ethics, but there is still

exceptions to the rules and some rules are broken.
