Color Purple

             The Color Purple had many tragic scenes through out the story and hardships on the characters. Many terrible things happened to the characters of The Color Purple. The characters that were mostly impacted by terrible events and hardships were mostly Celie and Sofia. These characters went through a great deal of problems and disasters.
             Celie is the main character of The Color Purple. Her parents don't care about her. Celie is fourteen years old. Her father, Alphonso, raped her and told her, "You better not never tell nobody but God. It'll kill your mammy." He constantly tells her that she is "evil an always up to no good." Celie begins keeping a journal written as letters to God. She asks God to give her guidance because she does not understand what has happened to her. She gives birth to two children from her father, Adam and Olivia. During her pregnancy, the church she attends to is very restrict about femminity. The women at her church stared judgmentally at her when she was pregnant with her two children. When Celie's mother dies, Celie is well advanced into her second pregnancy. She curses Celie with her dying breath. Celie is not angry with her mother. She pities her because she was sick, tired, and worn out from trying to believe Alphonso's lies. Alphonso takes both of Celie's children from her and gives them to Samuel while they are still infants without telling Celie. Mr. comes to the home of Alphonso and wants to take nettie's hand in marriage but Alphonso refuses to give him nettie but instead he offers Celie. Mr.'s desperate to find a woman to take care of his children, marries Celie. Celie spends her wedding day washing dishes and cleaning the floor. Mr. abuses Celie mercilessly because he is angry that he has been continually frustrated in his attempts to marry either the women of his choice.
