Hurricane Charlie

             Many people left without water, electric, food, homes, jobs, and even loved ones. Hurricane Charley came through and left the state of Florida in shambles, to say the least. Millions of people lost power for days; some people lost everything that they owned. This storm is considered to be the worst Florida has seen in about twelve years, and is considered by many to be worse than Hurricane Andrew. The state of Florida is considered to be a Federal Disaster Area, and is getting help from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). Now I'm going to give you a little bit of insight to let you know just how bad the storm has affected the economy of the State of Florida and even how it has affected the economy of the United States.
             Now when you think of Florida, you think of Mickey Mouse don't you? Well most people did, but aren't to keen on the idea of coming to a hurricane zone. The past month has dealt a hard hit to the tourism aspect of Florida. Usually the tourism industry would be booming right now in late August early September, but not this year. But places like Disney World, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Wet & Wild, etc. are actually losing money this month with all the damages that they had to repair in the parks. They had to close the parks down early before Charley came and then had to open them late due to damage, putting them back more money. Florida usually relies on two things: their tourism, which is obviously lacking, and the exporting of citrus fruits. Charlie Bronson, the Florida Agriculture Commissioner, think that this could be the worst loss in fresh fruit that Florida has ever seen. Hurricane Charley has wiped out easily about one-third of the states orange groves. Florida is the second largest producer of oranges in the whole entire world (after Brazil).
