The first area of corruption in Hamlet is the moral aspect of the play. Under the rule of Hamlet's father, the country of Denmark had no bad reptuation. King Hamlet was a just and noble ruler with the country's best interests in mind. When Claudius becomes king the country's interests are not a main concern to him. Another area of corruption that is seen in the play is the political corruption. When Claudius takes control and transforms the country of Denmark into a country filled with drunkards, this causes the people of the country to lose all respect for the royal family.
The theme of corruption is echoed throughout Hamlet. Ophelia says " I would give you some violets, but they withered all when my father died. Ophelia passes out weeds, believing they are flowers, and tells the recipient what each flower means. Ophelia, in her insanity, kills herself by accidentally drowning in a stream when trying to get a flower.
