The five symbols that I saw in the first few moments of this film are the Stars of David, the menorah, the image of the torah, ark of covenant, and the tallit.

2. Describe what life was like for a poor Jewish peasant in the turn of the century Russia. What did the men do? what did the women do?

The life for a poor Jewish peasant in turn of the century Russia was like a traditional being, who is accepted by a small community. The poor Jews have no guarantee of life, or any insurance to stay in the town. Also, their freedom to live in the town can be taken away any time from them by the governing power. THe men was to bring news to the family and to make income for the family. Another hand, the women is to stay home doing housework, as well as take good care of the children.

3. Summarize the content of tevye's monologue at the beginning of the film.

Tevye's monologue at the starting describes the culture and the religion that he belongs to. He is a Jew who had been following path of his tradition all his life, but he does not know how and when it started. He follows the tradit

In conclusion, Tevye describes that the culture he belongs is quite traditional and rarely some significant change is made based on this culture. Therefore he is willing to share with God whenever a moment goes on in his life.
