Was the US Justified in Dropping the Atomic Bomb?

Was the United States justified in dropping the atomic bomb on Japan? On August 6, 1945, the United States became the first country to ever use the atomic bomb in warfare. On this day, the first of the two atomic bombs were dropped. The first was known as "Little Boy" and was dropped on the city of Hiroshima. The second was known as "Fat Man" and was dropped three days later on Nagasaki. The two bombs teamed together in taking over 100.000 lives instantly and many more thousands from the after affect of radiation. The atomic bomb was created in the south western desert of the United States under top secret conditions. The Manhattan Project was operated by Dr. Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was a German Jew that had previously fled from the Nazi party. For many years, the Germans and Americans were in a race to complete the bomb first. It was considered a spectacular success when on July 16, 1945 in the New Mexico desert, the first atomic bomb was detonated in a test run. The United States did not hesitate in using the atomic bomb on Japan, but were the Americans justified in their use of the first atomic bomb? Harry Truman seemed to think so as the leader of the United States at that time. He publicly stated his list

To follow up, not only did the United States send a message to Josef Stalin, but rather to the whole entire world. An additional tens of thousands of people died over the span of the following four months, due to various illnesses caused by the radiation exposure. His first reason was that the atomic bomb would end the war successfully at the earliest possible moment. This was a contributing factor, considering the United States was not trying to be pulled into a war across seas for any amount of time. Maybe the biggest thing of all was that the message was sent to Josef Stalin that the Americans had a strong weapon that he could not counter and that we were the only nuclear superpower. No one actually knew that the Americans had used up every atomic bomb in their possession, but the point was still clearly seen by most everyone that the United States had the weapons to back up anything they wanted to do. One last reason to drop the atomic bomb was the fact that the Americans wanted to by all means keep Russia out of the war. This also relayed to the world that America was not a country to be reckoned with and were probably considered untouchable for quit some time after their use of the atomic bombs. To sum up his five reasons, Truman simply saw that there was a lack of incentives to not use the bomb. The United States soldiers were also undergoing harsh treatment by the unmerciful Japanese. The long list of reasons helps justify the dropping of the atomic bomb by the Americans in 1945. The war needed to end as soon as possible because it not only was costing major expenses to keep in operation, but was also costly to many innocent people's lives. Second, he wanted to justify the effort and expense of even building and having possession of the atomic bombs. " Truman was the executive power of the United States, but there were many other primary reasons for dropping the atomic bombs besides those listed in his own five reasons. Truman also wanted to offer hope of achieving diplomatic gains in the growing rivalry with the Soviet Union Additionally, he knew the United States had much hatred towards the Japanese and most everyone wanted vengeance against them after what happened at Pearl Harbor, where the Japanese executed a surprise attack on the United States military base.
