Garcia Marquez, " A very old man with enormous wings"This story leaves you wondering what are the role and the significance of the old man what's he really in angel? Or what's he a freak of nature or something that we old going to become old and we are afraid to face that fact or is he someone caught between two worlds. I saw a lot of injustice in this story and very inhuman toward the old man, to keep someone captive and be used for financial gain to enrich they is very low. I wonder is that the nature of most human being cold and premeditate and to looking for opportunities.
In our society we are obsessive with beauty and appearances and looks that we forget everything else that is really important. I felt sorry for the old man being treated like an animal in the zoo or circus. " On the third day of rain" give some connection that something religious or magical is going to happen just like Chris appears to his disciples after three days of his resurrection. One the person they came to see the old man was the priest and considering himself very qualify to recognize an angel he tried to communicate with the angel speaking in Latin, the priest was offended because the old man did nothing did no recognize a serves of God and did no spoke the language of god Latin. Everybody in town found out the news that there was an angel a lot of people came to see him most of them came looking for a miracle and for curiosity, but a lot people were very disappointed when they saw the angel they were expecting something very beautiful and bright and glorious instead they saw an old man with enormous wings and with parasites. When Pelayo first saw something that was trying to get up and call his wife and finally realize that was an old man but was scare of him but help him. He kidnaps the angel till his child got better. He could this lady that knew about mystical things and told Pelayo that the old man was an angel that came to take away Pelayo's child that was very sick. Like most clergy they feel they are above of everything else and sometime they lose their humility because of their constant judgments.
