Richard the Second

Henrys health slowly deteriorated and he eventually died in late 1412, and the prince succeeded as king Henry the fifth. This went on for about three years until the kings forces defeated the rebels in a battle in July of 1403. Eight months later Owen Glendower raised a national rebellion against the English rule in Whales. During this time Richard was really looking at getting back at his enemies, and he did. There were three stages of the war, first it was the York’s versus the Lancastrians which ended with Edward the fourth king and he was a York. Gaunts return in 1389 stabilized the situation for a little while. King Henry then took the throne and imprisoned Richard. Shakespears story of his murder has no reliable sources according to the encyclopedia Britannica. Second was the yorkists versus the king makers and Edward won again only by luck. In January of 1400 he defeated a conspiracy of Richard supporters. Instead he made a disastrous mistake by leaving for Ireland. The war of the roses was a very historical time period and a historical period of civil war. The towns were generally left alone and the commoners spared but many believe this was a period of civil war. Four months later he died believed to be of starvation.
