Little Buddha
A foreign 1994 film entitled "Little Buddha" staring Keanu Reevesis hardly something that would get me excited. The first time Iwatched the movie I couldn't even stay awake to pay attention. But upon renting the film and taking it home and watching it onmy own time, I was suprisingly interested and entertained by the The film has two story lines shifting back and forththroughout the movie, the first half being set in modern times. Several Tibetan monks travel to Seattle in search of a boy.According to their dreams, he is the reincarnation of a Buddhistlama. The boy whom they are searching for is a ten year old by
Jesse's daddecides to go with Jesse and the monks to Nepal so they can learnif Jesse is really the reincarnation they think he is. Although I was suprisingly very delighted with this movie, there were a few details that bothered me. Upon leaving Jesse's homethe monks give Jesse a children's book entitled Little Buddha. As Jesse and his parents read the book, the other half ofthe movie unfolds. Siddhartha is sheltered by his father when he is young. Bridget Fonda's wonderful presence and performance is alwaysa pleasure. Jesse turns out being very unknowledgeable of the Buddaistreligion. Keanu Reeves suprisingly redeemed himself from his roll inBill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. It tells the story of the Buddha Siddhartha. When Siddhartha seesthe way the world really is, he takes it upon himself to try torelieve the world of all pain and suffering. Jesse's parents are very skeptical. This suprises both themonks and Jesse. The monks befriend Jesse and his parents andtry to convince them to let Jesse return to Nepal with them.
