Predestination
There are many different topics through out the bible. These topics are interrelated to each other for example the concept of predestination is mentioned through out the bible and is referenced in about four books of the bible. Predestination is sort of a controversial topic because one side says that God plans everything out for you but the other side is that you make your own life otherwise known as free will.Predestination, in theology, doctrine that asserts that God predestines from eternity the salvation of certain souls, so-called double predestination, as in Calvinism, is the added assertion that God also foreordains certain souls to damnation. Predestination is based on God's omniscience and omnipotence and is closely related to the doctrines of divine providence and grace. A predestination doctrine suggested in St. Paul, but it is not developed (Rom. 8.28-30). St. Augustine's interpretation of the doctrine has been the fountainhead for most subsequent versions, both Protestant and Roman Catholic. Pelagianism argued against St. Augustine, that by granting every individual freedom of choice, God wills the salvation of all souls equally, a view that became popular in liberal Protestant theology (Encyclopedi
He says that the unsaved person is at war with God and not even able to submit to God: "the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so" (Romans 8:7). When God regenerates us, He re-creates our hearts and gives us a desire for Christ that we otherwise would not have. He did not choose those whom He foreknew would choose him, but based his choice upon himself and his holy purposes only. Now we are in a position to understand why unconditional election does not violate free will. Therefore, before we choose something, we must first desire to choose it. In other words, God must regenerate us (i. This is also a free choice because it is in accordance with their desires. Since total depravity is true of everyone before they are saved, how does anyone ever come to believe? In other words, what must happen before a person will believe? Clearly, there must first be a spiritual transformation of our hearts that causes us to love the light and desire the light instead of hate the light (John 3:20, 21). Jonathan Edwards conclusively argued in his book The Freedom of the Will that the will always chooses according to its greatest desire now. Jeremiah said that "the heart is more deceitful than all else and desperately sick; who can understand it?" (Jeremiah 17:9). Then, out of the desire for Christ in our new hearts, we come to Him and believe in Him. Calvinism, on the other hand, rejects the role of free will, teaches that grace is irresistible and that God by an absolute election saves the souls of some, and abandons the souls of others. Unconditional election means "our final destination, heaven or hell, is decided by God not only before we get there, but before we are born.
