Jim wants his father to learn how to stand up for himself. While Jim was arguing with his mother, Jim turns to his father for support. Jim’s father replies, “This is all going to fast for me. ” Jim wants to confront his parents about his problems that he has and he wants to fix them. Several times in the film, Jim turns to his father for advice, but his father backs down because he is indecisive and afraid of his wife. Also, it proves that every time Jim cries for help he receives none. When the subject of crying children approaches Jim remarks, “drown them like puppies. Jim’s father does not have respect from his son or Jim’s mother. Love and affection are not the only things that Jim need, but also guidance. All Jim wants is his father’s advice, but he never receives it because his mother always speaks for him. Jim wants his father to leave the mess alone and stand up to Jim’s mother if she were to scold him. ” Jim snaps back at his father, “You better give me something.
