He traveled to Europe many times and educated himself in the way Europeans ran their government. When it was completed, everyone would then be able to sign and they would become a union.
In 1776, Ben Franklin helped to draw up the Declaration of Independence and was on the oldest delegates to sign the Declaration at the age of 70 on July 2, 1776.
In 1787, he was invited as a delegate to the writing of the peace treaty at the Constitutional Convention. He went on and married Deborah Read Rogers.
With such a deep interest in science, in 1752, he experimented with electricity by flying a kite during a thunderstorm and proving that lightning is a discharge of electricity. When it came time to write the Constitution, he had many good ideas from Europe that he wanted to add. He wanted our Constitution to be outstanding.
He would die at the age of 84 in Philadelphia on April 17, 1790. The Constitution took many days to write because it had to have the basic rights for all of the people and states.
