Dorthy Day Essay

             Dorothy Day was a troublemaker, an egomaniac, a radical, a dangerous subversive, an unwed mother, and a crusading journalist. This however, was before the influence of Christianity in her life. Meanwhile, Arch Bishop Romero was considered to be a great and loving soul of the Salvadorian people. Both seem very different, however through Chrsitianity the two share a similarity in their strive for good. In the following essay I am going to discuss the similarities between Day and Romero along with such theorists such as Kierkegaard, John Rawls, Karl Barth, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I will also show such theorists who might not have agreed with Day and Romero, these theorists are Karl Marx and Jean-Paul Sartre
             Dorthy Day's life can be summarized in the strive for good. In her younger years Dorthy was considered to be a troublemaker, an egomaniac, a radical, and a dangerous subbersize. She was also a Marxist. However, a simple nun she met out of complete randomness changed her life forever. It was something that changed her views on life. Dorthy became very interested in Christianity. This growing fascination consumed her until Christianity was all Dorthy Day lived for. In fact Christianity even ended her marriage with her Athetiest husband. Although Christianity did make Day's life and fight for good harder, it did give her a sense of living. Christianity also transformed her. Suddenly Day was considered, "an angel of mercy, a friend of the poor," and most importantly, "a living saint." Through this transformation Day decided it was up to her to try to help change the world for the better. No matter how long and slow it might become. Through the help of a homeless man named "___" Day put together the Catholic Worker.
