The first four famous civilizations were based on four fertile river valleys. These happened to be the most agricultural and economic communities in those times. This enabled our predecessors to extend their surroundings of the area and gain control. The oldest known figures were found in the Chauvet Cave in South France. One involved the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in Iraq. They were painted with charcoal and earthen pigment. The artists drew animals that now many of them our extinct.
