             School counseling is a self-gratifying career. There are many opportunities in this field. The Texas Education Agency's web site has many different resources that an aspiring counselor could use. Counseling students is a great career to get into. The process of becoming a counselor is hard and tedious but in the end it is worth all the hard work.
             Now, more than ever, there are many issues for students to consider. They can go to a junior college, a community college, a four-year state or private university, a vocational school, or they can go straight to the work place. These are why students need school counselors to be there to so they can get good opinions and good advice. "A main responsibility for counselors is helping students find realistic career options" (field). Like finding a college or university that fits what kind of career one is looking at, or to find one that fits their needs. Counselors also help find jobs for students and set up college admission tests. Also they have to make sure every student has a chance to take the SAT and the ACT. Counselors also bring in different people to talk about their job so that students can see if they are interested. Other responsibilities of equal importance are things such as counseling students with difficulties either social or mental. "Research has shown that when certified professional school counselors have the time, the resources, and the structure of a comprehensive guidance program in which to work, they contribute to positive student academic and career development as well as the development of positive and safe learning climates in schools" (Anderson).
