Suburbs of Boston are now cities. Arlington, Brookline, Cambridge, etc. are consumed by the city. However, this does not decrease commute time or miles. As urban conditions deteriorate more of its population moves out seeking better conditions. As urbanization spreads the landscape is deforested. As a result service sector jobs move out of the city to suburban strip malls further increasing urban unemployment. The result is costly and devastating floods. The only solution is to obsevre the growth and make sure it is positive and beneficial to the community. I think the best we can do is make a compromise between both systems, make laws governing growth, and let people choose whats best for them. I would also make sure that everything is accesible by foot or bike this would help cut the costs of purchasing a car along with lowering pollution. Their commutes are longer, and more of it is spent in gridlock traffic. As these jobs are lost the urban dwellers fall into a greater state of poverty than already exists. Furthermore, this leads to global warming. I would also make sure that there are good schools and recreational facilities to help attract families as well as younger students. Moreover, as people move away from the city they become more dependent on the automobile for transportation. Many suburban areas no longer depend on their urban centers.
Forestland is the only resource that consumes the massive CO2 emissions from combustion engines. Lots of business is good but too many businesses and things can become out of control.
