the Obstacles of a Black Boy
The hardest part of life is overcoming the obstacles a person experiences. Though the level of difficulty jumps to a new extreme when the obstacles are based on one's survival. The life of Richard Wright was primarily based around the problems that occurred all his life such as hunger, his family and the racism of the South. He constantly fought against the problem of religion, where he was forced against his will to worship something that he didn't understand, so therefore, didn't want to understand it. Richard Wright faces almost all the possible obstacles that a young black man can experience, and though he often walks away from his problems, as his life progresses he learns to face his problems, hopefully learn from the experience it gives and then move on with his life. The one obstacle that Richard unfortunately suffers throughout is life, is his constant hunger. He never fully encounters it until his father leaves his family, and he must go out and find a job to feed his mother and little brother. When Richard's family moves to his, Granny's house, the hunger just seems to get worse and worse. He now must work to pay not only for his mother and brother, but also for his granny and grandp
Richard doesn't understand any of what is going on and it really frightens him because he doesn't know if the same thing will happen to him. These are the writings of his true feelings and beliefs of how blacks should be looked at and how all races should be equal without any conflicts or problems. His friend looks at him with a face smeared with tears, and explains how his brother was killed because white men thought that he had been having sex with a white woman at the hotel he had been working at. Richard's stubbornness really explains his feelings and emotions when it comes to what he thinks is right. With his new knowledge and awareness it brings Richard to making actions that stand out in history of the war of race. Another obstacle that Richard has a hard time just dealing with is his family in general. With having to provide for his entire family with money for food and just dealing with all of the people he must live with, it really begins to annoy Richard. 00 a week, after weeks of helping the man he returns home. Richard doesn't understand why he is being threatened and when uncle Tom comes at him, Richard gets out a razor blade and yells to uncle Tom, " I'll cut you!" This incident really shows how Richard looks and thinks about his family, because the fact that he would cut a family member just to not receive a beating shows that he has an independence and that he's going to stand up for what he thinks is right. Wanting to know what is wrong Richard asks. In conclusion, Richard Wright overcame many obstacles in his life that no matter how hard they got sometime in his he always did something about to resolve it, and move onto the next obstacle that may occur. Throughout Richard Wright's struggle to get out of the south, onto Chicago, and the rest of his life he must first climb over some life altering situations. One morning uncle Tom opens the door of Richard's room and asks what time it is, and Richard, half awake, tells him the time, well uncle Tom takes offense to the way the time was given and threatens to beat Richard. The obstacles, themselves of just surviving and overcoming hunger, his family and the racism of the South are the hardest part his life.
