Interior Design

Interior Design is a career that has interested me for years. Since I was a little girl, I have rearranged furniture and pictures in an effort to be creative and make our home look more beautiful. I seem to have always possessed a creative talent for design. Interior design in America with its rich European history and variety of modern trends provides both advantages and limitations as my chosen career. Eighteenth Century France was characterized by a classic approach to architecture. The structure of the buildings were palaces. The usage of statues was extremely popular also during this period in France. Paris, the city of lights, was known for its use of both white cement structures such as columns and interior wall sculptures. Robert de Cotte, Jacpues Jules Gabriel, and Ange - Jaques Gabriel were famous designers of the time (Ball 39). These men mark the progression in the "batiments" through the reign of Louis XV; the younger Gabriel bridges to Louis the XVI (39). From the latter part of the Sun King's reign, there was little building in the royal domain: new work was confined to interiors. This allowed the prominent architects time and freedom to work with other customers. De Cotte and another crown architect, Gabriel

These houses usually consisted of two stories, surrounding porches on both floors and hard wood or marble floors. (Gamble) The liabilities of this career seem few however, and a small price to pay compared to the assets and would seem to be overshadowed by the self satisfaction and personal gratification from a job of this nature. In addition designers are rarely bored "Instead of sitting in an office all day, you constantly get new projects," explained Gamble who sat in on my interview with his wife. Many designers brought style over from England and made it more contemporary. The hours are sometimes strange, long, and late. Our little business grosses ten million dollars a year and there are only seven people in the company. There are now eight people working for the company. "I got my job organizing the library at Brooks Interior Design and moved into answering phones. My responsibilities there are answering phones but I have already been assured of accompanying my boss on an all expense paid trip to New York to help pick out and purchase furniture and accessories for the company. Experience is important for someone to have, with or without schooling. This was no small achievement - one that has not yet been duplicated in our industrialized culture. The most popular houses built during this period were known as Georgian Houses(114). I am thankful for the opportunity to write on the topic of career choice because as a result of my interview with Karen Gamble I have acquired a job with Brown Interior Design. In the interiors of the Georginian and the plantation, most walls and ceilings were either furnished wood or stucco. The eighteenth century house shared with it seventeenth century prototype a difficulty with respect to its organizing its horizontal and vertical movements.
