Who comes to mind as the creator and developer of female sexual freedom in the past 20 years? Most would answer with one name: Madonna. When Madonna was asked where she wanted to go with her career she replied “ I want to rule the world”. Madonna meant that she wants to change things for women in America. Madonna didn’t exactly rule the world but according to many aroudn the world she has made a huge impact on the lives of many women.

Madonna’s drive for power, and Ambition to make females and males equal in all senses is one of the many reasons why Madonna is an excellent icon. She has shown many women that attempting to put men and women on the same level is the only way to gain equality among both sexes.

Not only had Madonna proven to be an excellent role model, but she speaks out against male dominance in more then one way. They look pathetic, silly, and desperate. I feel like Ii woke up one day holding the golden rings and realized that smart, sassy girl who accomplishes a lot, and have their own cash and are independent are really frightening men. Madonna and women like her are often very intimidating to the male figure. Feminism says ‘no more masks’ Madonna says ‘ we are nothing but masks’” ( paglia 8)

With all these wonderful things that Madonna has created, it’s no wonder many people aroudn the world are amazed by her essence. She wasthe first female to step forward in the music business and pave her own path. “ Madonna dissolves boundaries between gay subculture and main stream culture- thus you do not have to be gay to vogue, nor do you have to be straight ti be a Femme Fatale.

One constantly hears Madonna being compared to Marilyn Monroe, Others believe that she is exactly the opposite. She has also become very aware of the rights of all humand. “ Madonna also rejects the self-monitoring of female sexuality by disrupting the ‘ male gaze’ whereby men act and women appear. Women who are/were considered female were seen as weak and not in control of their own lives. Everything Madonna stands for is summed up in one of her songs.
