Body Modification, Cool or Controversial?

             Why are there so many people in the world today performing so many different types of "body modification" on themselves? Is it so that they will be accepted into popular groups or cliques? Why are some people so repulsed by it? The purpose of this paper is to discuss the many different types of body modifications and why people think they have to do it in order to fit in with everyone else.
             I believe what we call body modification comes in many different forms. Whether it's piercing, tattooing, or cutting there are many people who do it just to get in with the so-called "cool" crowd. For the many other people who participate in body modification, it is a pleasurable pain that they enjoy.
             The first type of body modification I would like to discuss is the ink lifestyle. I believe most people nowadays get tattoos way to soon. They don't think about what they really want to have on their bodies for the rest of their lives. So they end up getting a tattoo that they really don't want or are not happy with later in life and get it either covered up with a different one or pay a bunch of money to get it removed (OUCH!). Another thing many people do not realize these days is the danger of getting a tattoo by someone who is not a professional. There are many diseases that a person can contract from a tattoo needle that was not properly sterilized or one that was used by another person. One of the many diseases that a person can contract from a used needle is the deadly disease called Hepatitis C.
