Isis and Mary

Isis was the goddess of fertility according to Egyptian mythology, she represented motherhood. She was the daughter of god Keb (Earth) and his wife/ sister Nut (Sky). She was the sister-wife of Osiris. Osiris was the god who judged the dead as they prepared to leave into the afterlife. Isis and Osiris had a son by the name of Horus, who was god of day.The myth is about Osiris who was murdered by his brother and then sank his coffin containing his body. Isis went to search for his body and recovered it. But again he gained access to the body. He then cut the body into fourteen pieces which he scattered over the land. Isis searched for all of the pieces while mourning for her husband. She recovered each part of the body.Isis was believed to be powerful and have magic. She had the ability to create and destroy life with her words. After she found all fourteen pieces, she proceeded to bring Osiris back to life temporarily. She then creates Horus, their son during this period. There are festivals related to Isis. There were also daily prayers in the morning and the afternoon. In the autumn they celebrated their public festival of Search and Discovery where the remembered Isis' search of Osiris which ended


Mary became with child of the Holy Ghost. When she had given birth to the Son of God she remained a virgin. The cult of Isis and Osiris originated in Egypt, while Syria and Palestine came the cult of Adonis. Thet range from safety to forgiveness of sins. Comparing Isis and MaryIsis and Mary are both the essence of the Divine Mother. The also pray for eternal salvation. Each section consists of one large bead and ten small beads. She is sometimes seen as a middle person with God. Usuall the secret was how to achieve unity with that deity, This knowledge was unattainable by outsiders of the cult. Both are shown weeping for Osiris and Jesus. This religious experience or ectasy lead them to believe they were experiencing the beginning of a new life. Her power controlled the winds and the seasons. Seeking and finding of the body of Osiris, took place annually for 1 week at the end of October and beginning of November. Isis portrays the trials she has endured herself.
