A Child Called It

             A Child Called "It" is a true story of a child growing up with an abusive mother. The book describes the hardships that a young boy, David Pelzer, lived with between the ages of 4 and 12. His horrifying treatment and punishment is explained in great detail in this book written from a child's point of view, aimed to assist abused youngsters to take action to stop maltreatment.
             The author of the book starts the story off on "that faithful day", on which his teachers and other educational figures decided to take action, and reported David's possible abuse. After describing that day, Pelzer recalls himself at the age of 5, and this is when he begins to explain all the horrible acts he was put through by his alcoholic mother.
             Dave Pelzer's life story is horrifying, but extremely detailed and interesting. This book is definitely on the New York Times Bestseller List for a reason, it deserves to be read by all adolescents, children, and adults alike. The tale of this book seems very appealing and it can be assumed that the rest of Pelzer's work is just as fabulous.
             The book deals with the concept of child abuse, why it happens, and what the results of it are. David's mother was an alcoholic who, for an unknown reason, singled out young David and punished him outrageously. The book is aimed toward children in similar positions in an attempt to save them from the horrible outcomes of an abusive childhood.
