The Art of Making a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are simple to make, right? One does not fully understand the art which is involved in this making this simple creation. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is the staple food which students, picnic goers and humans from all walks of life have sworn by for years. These sandwiches are simple in structure, yet they contain a mouth watering experience. Variations on this sandwich are common, enhancing the natural goodness. The first step in this process is selecting a bread to use. As simple as this seems, it is actually quite complicated. Does one prefer Wheat or White? Multi-grain or Rye? Oatmeal or Italian? The list goes on, but it is up to the consumer which bread they decide to pick. Then there are more decisions, does one want thin sliced or thick sliced? Fresh bakery bread or store-bought? For the sake of argument, the selected bread for this process will be thinly sliced, store-bought white sandwich bread. The next decision is which peanut butter one will use. This is again a quite complicated decision. There are many alternatives such as natural, old-fashioned, reduced fat and regular peanut butter. For this sandwich we will choose the standard Welches grape jelly. This sandwich can be placed on plate. One may prefer Jiff, Peter Pan, Skippy, Teddy Bear, the list goes on. Take these slices out of the bag and place flat on the paper towl work surface. First start by cleaning your work surface. Place these slices directly on top, with no edges hanging off. Start by placing a single layer consisting of two sheets of paper towels on the counter. Spread jelly around on slice, once again using the crust to guide oneself. One should scoop approximately one tablespoon of peanut butter on knife. One is also required to pick a certain brand such as Welches, Knoll, Smuckers, & Polener-all nautral. One may use a counter-top, plate, or cutting board for this. This is again a personal choice, but for our sandwich we will use smooth, Skippy peanut butter. The jelly may slide all over knife, but try to hold as much on as possible. Get a two knives and a plate from the cabinet.
