Diana Spencer: Princess of Wales

             Prestige, compassion, betrayal, divorce, and death: These are all the words that describe the life of Diana Spencer Princess of Wales. She was a woman of tremendous beauty and compassion who was never thinking about herself, but about what she could do for others. Even though Diana had many families, marital, and emotional problems, and problems with the media and school, she remained a great humanitarian who worked with the untouchables of the world such as AIDS and cancer patients, those with leprosy, the hearing impaired, and she helped promote the war against landmines in the world.
             Diana Spencer was born on July 1, 1961 (Oleksy 11). Her father, Earl Spencer, had been hoping to have a son to become his heir, but instead, his wife had Diana.
             After Diana's birth, her parents' relationship began to deteriorate. Two years later, they had their first son and an heir to Earl Spencer, but their marriage continued to fail. Diana began to blame herself for her parents' marital problems and felt that her father was distant from her (Oleksy 12). Her father and mother stayed together for four additional years, and then her mother left when she was six. When her father remarried, she never became very close to her stepmother because she felt her stepmother was trying to take the place of her real mother whom she still loved dearly (Oleksy 18).
             Diana never really enjoyed school. Until she was nine she was taught by a governess. When she was nine she was enrolled into Riddlesworth Hall Prep School, which she hated the entire time, she was there. When she was twelve she transferred to West Heath boarding school, which she eventually liked (Fincher 16). Even though she liked the school, she felt she was out of place, and detached from the other students (Fincher 16). Diana dropped out of school when she was 16 and moved back to London.
