I admit that I am an avid user of my cellular phone. With the unlimited minutes that my cell phone comes with, I can’t help but to use it for all of my calls. I also admit that I have caught myself using the phone while driving down the road.
After reading an article in the newspaper about New York banning the use of a cell phone while driving down the road, I questioned whether or not legal action was needed.
New York had “talking and driving” banned because of the amount of wrecks that people would cause while trying to hold a phone and steer a car. Another use of cellular phones has always bothered me since mass production of these handy phones was in progress. Like I said, I am an avid user of my cell phone, but all those with cell phones should be a little more careful of when and where they use their phones. The obnoxious ring, loud conversations, and all around untimely-ness of a cell phone call is enough to make a person go mad.
Although, I do use my phone while driving, I often tell the person I am talking to, to hold while I assess an upcoming hazard. About 20 years ago, if a person was caught talking to herself, especially loudly, she was put away on the grounds of insanity. I have heard of very bad experiences with cell phones in restaurants, grocery stores, department stores, theaters, churches, and even funerals. Be safe, be careful, and, as many public places would say, “PLEASE TURN OFF ANY MOBILE COMMUNICATION DEVICES WHILE IN THE BUILDING. the threats that cell phone use while driving pose.
I do, however, intend to hold all calls until stationary once a law is passed against “talking and driving. If a person were in a car as a passenger, he would sub-consciously see any hazard in the road ahead and thus pause the conversation to allow the driver to focus solely on the hazard ahead.
“How is using a headset with a phone and talking to a passenger different,” some might ask. However, if I do find myself not paying as much attention to the road as I should be, I quickly end the phone call.
The use of a cell phone in public places is atrocious.
