Underage Drinking

By the time we are all seniors at least half of us will have attempted to get

fake IDs. The only purpose of the fake ID is so that a teenager can purchase

alcohol. Underage drinking will have long lasting negative effects on a teenager’s

life. Some of the major points that I will discuss are, how teens are obtaining

alcohol, why teens chose to drink, what the legal ramifications of underage

drinking are and how alcohol effects the life of a teenager.

There are many different ways teenagers can obtain alcohol. According to

The Century Council, Teens obtain alcohol from friends or relatives of Legal Age.

The Council states, “ Even though individuals face still penalties for obtaining

alcoholic beverages, many choose to obtain alcohol for the underage drinker. In

Drinking underage is dangerous and is a major cause of traffic fatalities.

There are a lot of legal effects towards drinking.

The questions most people would like to know is, “Why do teens choose to

drink?” Well according to The century council, Teenagers use it as an escape. And about half of those were

alcohol-related. (Crimes and Punishments Article 27, Section 400A) It is

illegal to misrepresent your age, use another’s driver’s license, use a fake or

altered driver’s license, or make any false statement to obtain alcoholic

beverages from any licensed seller. It is illegal to possess any

alcoholic beverage. (Transportation Article 16-133) The Punishments are

you could be subjected to up to a $500 fine and your license could be either taken

away or suspended.

In conclusion, next time your thinking of getting a fake ID, think twice about

it.

In many cases, Teens are being able to purchase alcohol on their own by using

false identification otherwise known as Fake IDs.

As of the most part, alcohol effects the life of a teenager. According to the

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Over 40% of all the 16-20 year

olds who died in 1994 were killed in car crashes.

One opposing view would be that the drinking age should be reduced

because teens can vote at 18, they have to register for selective services at 18,
