I believe that I use a complex of all defensive mechanisms mentioned in the lecture, just as everybody else. However, until I encountered psychology, I wasn't aware that very often the way I acted was a situation when I used a defensive mechanism from psychological point of view.
             For instance, now I realize that I use rationalization as a way to find an explanation for issues that bother me or to defend myself in situations that don't follow the course I want. Very often, when I can't get what I want I try to comfort myself by looking on the bright side of the things. For example, if I plan to go somewhere, and something happens that I can't make it, I try to think positive and find the advantages of the situation. I say to myself: "Well, I can't go there indeed, but that's fine! I have nothing to lose. There are so many things I have to do here, and the weather is going to be bad. So, I'm better off staying at home and do my home works. I can go there some other time after all." This situation in fact refers to something that is happening to me today. I had a plan to go to Florida for the weekend with my girlfriend and come back on Tuesday. The idea occurred last week. I was at work and I found out that I was off the entire week. I decided to go somewhere with my girlfriend because both of us had been working a lot recently, and we thought we really needed to spend some time together. We chose Florida, made reservations in a hotel, rented a car and bought plain tickets. Surprisingly, yesterday I was called by my manager, and I was told that today ( Monday ) there was a staff meeting at my work, which I had to attend. In the beginning when I heard that I was really angry, but in a while I decided that there was something good about it and now I'm working on my assignment, which would have been a lot simpler if I had made that trip.
