Beowulf The European Idol

             In the epic poem, Beowulf, written during the Anglo- Saxon period, the main character undergoes many battles in order to become more infamous. He fights three main demons, Grendel, Grendel's Mom, and the Dragon. In the end of the poem, the dragon kills Beowulf. This contributes to his fame in many ways. It lets the common person relate to him better, it shows more heroic traits that he possesses, and he inspired many people by his true identity. For these three reason we can analyze Beowulf as a truly individ warrior.
             In order to be famous, you have to be known and appreciated by society. These are the two main goals that Beowulf is trying to accomplish. When Beowulf passes the Geats will remember him, because of the way the he was killed. "Praising him for his heroic deeds for a life as noble as his name. So should all men raise up words for their lords, warm with love, when their shield and protector leaves his body behind, sends his soul on high. And so Beowulf's followers rode, mourning their beloved leader. Crying that no better king had ever lived, no prince so mild, no man so open to his people, so deserving of praise." (Beowulf 50) Beowulf is remembered by the Geats by his actions, and by his accomplishments that made him truly famous. His death made
             him more of a hero, because the Geats could look back on his accomplishments and say that he did a lot of good things on this Earth, and was a good king and should be praised. Since he died, the Geats can see that even the best fail and that Beowulf was a human too. This also lets society relate to him, because everyone has failed and everyone is going to die some time, whether you are a hero or not.
             Beowulf's death shows the Geats new personality traits that Beowulf possesses, but never has shown. After the dragon's flames engulfed him, Beowulf showed many good traits such as kindness, thankfulness,
