Car Safety Feeatures
Airbags are a simple idea but can be very useful, the bags act as a cushion that prevents the driver and passenger from impact with the dashboard. They are activated when a considerable force acts on the front of the car. Passenger and driver-side dual airbags are now required in all cars. Recently, airbag technology has improved further as side airbags are now being tested, these are used to cushion the passengers in a side impact collision. There are three designs of these airbags, a tubular airbag that inflates from the roof, a curtain design that comes down from the roof or an airbag deployed from the seat, inflating forward and up.It is obvious that airbags are used for safety and to reduce the amount of casualties, but they can often cause serious injuries due to the force at which they deploy. Small adults and children are most vulnerable to the danger of airbags, so some vehicles come with an airbag shut off switch used to disable the airbags.Antilock Braking Systems eliminate the need to "pump the brakes" when you have t
Traction ControlABS is the system that improves your control over the car when braking, traction control is a system that helps to control your car when accelerating, during wet conditions, loose gravel or rapid acceleration. The Back up Sensing System is just a device that signals to the driver when they are too close to an object behind them using a proximity sensor at the rear of the vehicle, like when they are parking the car and they get too close to a wall. ABS is available for nearly all new cars. This is used to try and keep of much of the tires in contact with the road. ALR/ELR seatbelts are designed to take up slack in the belt automatically and to lock in place when the passenger or child safety seat moves forward at a higher than normal rate of speed. Electronic Stability SystemThis electronic system coordinates the ABS, Traction Control (see Traction Control) and the "yaw" (how much a car rocks side-to-side) of a vehicle so that they have the best effects. Because ABS pumps the brakes for you, you can keep your foot down constantly on the brakes therefore increasing your concentration on the steering the car. Back Up Sensing SystemThis system does not prevent major accidents but it you could consider it a safety feature. Impact Absorbing Interior MaterialsUsing interior materials that absorb more energy than others reduces the amount of bumps and bruises, this only really effects smaller collisions and doesn't really change much in larger scale collisions. This allows you to regain control during bad weather or quickly avoid a collision. o stop quickly, preventing you from locking the wheels and skidding. Some body parts crumple easier than others to make this feature possible. Crash Resistant Door PillarsThis feature is used deflect the force of impact towards the lower part of your body in a side impact collision. When installing a child safety seat, these seatbelts must be as tight as possible.
