Yigal and His Three Generals

Yigals and his three Generals is a story of courage and thrust. Yigal, a simple olive worker, spoke up for the safety of a small town called Makor. In this story, the town of Makor has to resist two Roman armies. The first being Petronius and his men, who were suppose to place a statue of Caligula all over the known world, and the second being Vespasian and his men, who were sent by Nero to stop all the revolts of the Jews and conquer everything for Rome.

When Caesar Caligula ordered that General Petronius was to place the Caligula statues throughout the known world the Jews in Makor were distressed. They did not want a graven image of anything put in their town. They worshipped God and no one else. When Yigal heard about what was going to happen he went to the leader of the town, Simeon, an old wise man, and told him that they must resist the forces of Petronius. Simeon did not agree with Yigal’s reasoning, but there was one person who promptly agrees and sided with Yigal. This man’s name was Naaman. Yigal and his wife were crucified, and as they died the people of Makor were brought in front of them, and the one who were not good enough were slain with the sword and cut into pieces. Yigal and Naaman were taken prisoners, and Petronius’s army continued their march to Makor.

Suddenly one day, General Josephus said that he must leave and he was taking Naaman with him. Yigal watched as Josephus and Naaman left the town and crawled through the small tunnel to freedom. When Yigal heard about the Roman army coming to Makor he told the people that they must resist them, but this time Yigal did not get full support from the town.

However, many years passed, and Rome had many emperors. They always believe that their religion is right because it is self-glorifying. General Josephus prepared the town of Makor for every sort of attack that they might get from the Romans.

The Romans were very determined to take over the Jews of Makor. On the road a little ways further they found a large group of Jews blocking the road.

At this time old Simeon had died and Makor had a new leader, Naaman. Day after day General Vespasian continued to ask the people of Makor to surrender and day after day they said, “No, we will never surrender”.

Suddenly one day, a young man by the name Josephus showed up in Makor. They were instructed not to move off the road for Petronius and his army.
