The title of the play is Our Town which was published by Coward McCann Inc. in 1938. It tkaes place over a duration of several years, but mostly in the early 1900s. Our town is Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, a small town just over the lin of Massachusetts. Throughout the play, many different emotions and moods are expressed. For the most part, the play has a calm, day-to-day tone with the exeption of the climax.
             The stage manager serves as the informant through the story and provdies useful commentary in awkward situations and moemnts in the play. he aslo serves to be of use when Emily gets married and looks back on her life with her family. He also plays other small parts. Dr. Gibbs and Mrs. gibbs have two children, Rebecca and George who are respectively 11 and 16 at the beginning of the play. Rebecca is a smart young girl for her afe. George Gibbs is the high school hero of Grover's Corners, champion pitcher of the basball team and president of his senior class. Unfortunately, his success goes to his head. He begins to act very conceited and ifnores his family and friends for baseball. Emily Webb, his neighbor and furture wife, later helps him to realize the errors of his ways. Emily is the main chracter of the play whose life and death is followed throughout all three acts. At the beginning of the play, she is a bright young student who is always excelling in school. She makes very good grades and has been elected as the seecretary and tresurer of her senior class in high school. It is also obvious that Emily is a popular girl. George complains during the play that she is always busy and surrounded by friends. Emily also has a brother Wally who is the same afe as George's sister, Rebecca. They have brief appearance in the play. The Webbs, Emily's parents, have small parts and contribute to a few conversations about the ngagment of George and Emily. Howie Newsome is the local milkman.
