Mr Underwood- to kill a mockingbird

             Early Tuesday morning, many gathered to watch the fate of Mr. Tom Robinson be decided.
             This month, Tom Robinson was accused to beating and raping Mr. Ewelle's oldest daughter, Mayella. Mayella and her father claim that Tom was on his way home from work when Mayella asked a favor of him, Tom came inside and attacked Mayella.
             Tom's Lawyer, Atticus Finch, first called sheriff Heck Tate to the stand. Atticus then stated the fact that no doctor had been called to the scene of Mayella's alleged beating and rape.
             Then The prosecution called Mayella Ewelle to the stand. She said that she called Tom Robinson inside the fence that evening and offered him a nickel to break up a dresser for her, and that once he got inside the house he grabbed her and took advantage of her. When Atticus Cross examined her, he pointed out that she had seven siblings and a drunk father to take care of.
             Then Atticus makes the point that most of Mayella's cuts and bruises are on the rights side of her body, and it would be extremely difficult for a man like Tom ( a man with not much of a left arm to hit Mayella on the right side.
             Atticus then pleaded with Mayella to confess that her father had beaten her, but she stuck to her story.
             Finally Atticus brings tom Robinson to the stand. Tom testifies that he always passed the Ewell's house on the way to work and that Mayella often asked him to do chores for her. Today Mayella asked him to break apart a dresser for her, and he noticed that the other children were gone. Mayella then grabbed his legs, scaring him so much that he jumped down. As she struggled, her father appeared at the window, calling Mayella a whore and threatening to kill her. Tom fled.
             After closing arguments by the prosecution and Atticus Finch, the jury left the courtroom. The jury was gone for quite a while keeping everyone present in eerie suspense. When the jury returned , they produced an unanimo...
