Klu Klux Klan
The Civil War which lasted four long years and left the south honor-less and depressed, lead to the freeing of the slaves shortly after. Poor whites and others against freed blacks feared and rejected this change and wouldn't tolerate it. The Ku Klux Klan, a.k.a. the KKK, formed by whites against freed blacks was and still is a terrorist group, initially consisting of Civil War Confederate veterans who struck fear into the minds of free slaves and others who helped them. After the Civil War, the slaves were freed and Reconstruction began. This is the time when the KKK was born. The Reconstruction Acts were passed in March of 1867, and at that time, the club known as the Ku Klux Klan officially became a terrorist organization. The original club was formed in December, 1865 in a law office where several white men against freed blacks met and talked about their pro-slavery beliefs, and their full-length official creed was this:"We the order of the KKK, reverentially acknowledge the majesty and supremacy of the Divine Being and recognize the goodness and presence of the same. And recognize the relation to the United States government, the supremacy of the constitution, the constitutional laws thereof, and the union of the s
He would "drink" a few pales of water and then would ride off into the fog after saying, "I haven't had a drink since I died on the battlefield. However, after the 15th amendment to the constitution was passed in Congress, which gave suffrage to all men, including blacks, the violence escalated. " Saying this strengthened their ghostly persona. The KKK was punished, but the punishment didn't fit the crime and often never did. Mostly just poor whites competing for work with the blacks and outlaws supported the Klan. His slave trading allowed him to fund the clan and is one reason why he became the Grand Wizard. In 1871, a large mass of blacks from Kentucky gathered and petitioned for Congress to stop the KKK from their horrible destruction of life and property. Forrest was believed to manage slave trading before the war and he was believed to lead a slaughter of men, women, and children during the war, this is widely disputed however by many historians. The terrorism was supported at first by the south because the south had spent so much money and precious lives fighting for slavery against the north in the Civil War, and they were very disturbed when slavery ended. The Klan's costume in the 1800s was made to look ghostly and supernatural, because they thought that blacks were very superstitious at this time. The Night Hawks, which were lead by the Grand Cyclops's, rode on horseback and the horses were also robed and their hooves were muffled. Between the 1860s and 1870s however, the blacks were far from defenseless. At this time, a fake KKK was formed by a group of outlaws who were called the "Black KKK" in hopes that the name would frighten away Feds. In the beginning, the Klan seemed like nothing more, nor nothing less, than the common criminals committing the common crimes: assault, rape, battery, murder. One such white death occurred in 1870 in Greene County, Alabama.
