The Transformation of Robinson Crusoe

             Robinson Crusoe, the protagonist of Defoe's novel, experiences journeys, and adventures which transform him from an unsure, immature, and disobedient son to a religious, experienced man with a strong faith in God and a strong set of morals and values. During the start of the story, Robinson Crusoe's father hopes that his only living son will become a lawyer and advises him not to set out on sea life. He disobeys his father and ultimately gets stranded on an island in which he learns valuable life lessons and transforms into a whole new person.
             Robinson Crusoe was a very uncertain boy who could never make up his mind and keep his decisions. For example, at the beginning of the novel, Crusoe's father warns and tells him to stay away from the adventures of the ocean. He initially agrees to his father's wishes and plans on not taking to sea. But, after a few days, he changes his mind and takes back what he said. Another example is that when Crusoe was on his first ship, a storm hit and Crusoe promised not to take any more adventures on the sea. Of course, he changed his mind again and planned on going to see again. Crusoe is also an easily persuaded person. When he decided not to go to sea again because of the storm, his shipmates ridiculed him. For this reason only, Crusoe changed his minds and takes back his promise. If it were not for this, he would have had none of his problems of the entire novel. Later in the novel, Crusoe can make clever decisions which benefit his well being on the island.
             Throughout Crusoe's experiences on the island, he changes from an unreligious person to a faithful and pious believer in God and Christianity. Crusoe had many times in which he could have died but ended up surviving. For example, on a ship of which he was a commander, his entire crew died in the ocean storm, but he managed to get to safety on the island.
