The Voice of God's Command
Essay: Tahirih's "The Voice of God's Command" God is the beginning and the end of everything. In Tahirih's poem, "The Voice of God's Command", she is writing about how God is the creation and destruction of all things. She illustrates this in the form of a poem, by using proper words (capitalisation), imagery, guilt, and symbolic letters. She explains his significance very simply for us to understand. Tahirih writes this piece as a free-verse poem, where it follows no regular meter and has no rhyme. It consists of four quatrains (four lines per stanza), which is the most common stanza form in English poetry. By using this form, it broadens her choice in words to create a better understanding of God's importance. Also, proper words/capitalisation is used as a reference. In the first line of the first stanza, she capitalises 'faith' to indicate how important it is
In the second stanza, she uses imagery to illustrate this wonderful new beginning. It is referred to the Baha'I Faith wherein she is famous for her love and dedication to it. From the four lines together, the B and E represent the beginning and end of existence; everything comes from God, and since nothing lasts forever, when it perishes it returns to God. Instead we should be investigating and be part of a new beginning; a new message sent from God for this new day and age. In the context of this poem, they are paired up to have many meanings. All God's creatures should be grateful for everything He has done for them. From just the first line, putting B and E together spells 'be': our beginning at birth and our end at death causing us to be (long obligatory prayer). When she writes: "How long in this world, rabid with passion and corruption, will you remain so remote from your true purpose so pitifully far?",she is thinking, how can somebody be so ungrateful for being alive when their creator spent time specifically on them to make the way they are just to be alive? She is saying that it doesn't make sense and it is wrong. It sounds kind of harsh, but it is necessary. Lastly, Tahirih uses symbolic letters: the letters B and E. She writes them as: " From but two letters, B and E, Our Faith has appeared again, You need only respond: 'from God' and 'to Him shall we return'. In summary, Tahirih uses many poetic devices and writing tools to emphasize God's magnitude and how big of a role He plays in our lives; this is why it is important to follow His teachings and accept His latest messages. She is trying to stress on her point that we came from God and we will return to Him when we die.
