The conflict is driven through the events that occur in the as the book moves on as well as events that occurred in the past in the story. It is also Enflamed by the character interaction amongst one another. In fact the plot is mainly driven by the conflict between the characters. These conflicts are caused with a specific reason though, the reason is because of the characters for the most part are family. The fact that they are family is exactly why the conflict is caused, since they all love each other and live together it makes the conflict grow painful when they differ in opinions as much as they do over the construction of the arc and the following of Yaweh’s will. Therefore it is obvious that conflict is made drastically worse by the fact that the characters are family.

She brings Lotte (the child) to the arc and preposes to Noah that she will only go onto the arc if Lotte were allowed to join them. The conflicting opinions show themselves early on in the book such as page 13 when she replies to Noah in an argument “The only principles that matter here are yours!”. Noyes, this is because when her and Noah find themselves on opposite sides in opinions and emotionally battling each other, he takes his father Noah’s side and turns against his mother.
