Gun Control

             Many believe that a gun is dangerous and not needed in our society. Others think that all guns should be confiscated and ban from our country. I believe that it is the person who is dangerous not the gun, and guns have a purpose in this society and are needed. Man became the top of the food chain because he invented the gun. It is our second amendment right to own a gun because our founders of this nation saw the true value and purpose of a gun.
             Contrary to misrepresented information and movies, most murders are not committed by a person who has had no previous convictions. It is uncommon for a law-abiding citizen to one day just go out of control and kill the person next to them (Gruyter). Studies were conducted at the local level and the national level, which indicated that the majority of homicides are committed by a person who has been convicted of a previous crime. Domestic homicides are also more common to be committed by a criminal convicted of multi crimes (Gruyter). Gun accidents involving a child is often on the news and is commonly distorted by the media. The news broad casters will give you the impression that fatal gun accidents are more prevalent compared to other fatal accidents. What the media neglects to say is that fatal gun accidents have gone down almost by 60 percent since 1975, even though the number of guns have increased by 40 percent (Gruyter).
             Many guns may have not been used in self-defense, but that dose not mean that they aren't a good source of self-defense. There is no actual evidence that shows that owning a gun deters burglars; owning a gun though, may be a deterring factor from a burglar's point of view (Guyter). A "hot" burglary is when an uninvited person or persons enters a currently occupied home, like at night for example.
