James and Ruth in the Color of Water

They all laughed at James when he made fun of himself, (104-105) Another encounter of racism is when James was sent to buy milk from a white man. They learn about the way things work and how the way things work is so concrete it can't be changed. (35-36) That showed his uncertainty of the Black Panthers, thinking that they will attack any white person. A strange side of Ruth is her bicycle riding phase.
