Follow along with me as we explore the wonders of the mountains through
the events of a young lady's life named Christy. Christy is a nineteen year old
lady who comes from a wealthy family in Asheville. Christy decides to volunteer
teaching at a mission school in a small area in the mountains called Cutter Gap.
Christy was amazed that her parents let her go. The next morning Christy
hopped on a train to El Pano where her true journey will begin. When she
reached El Pano she marched to a blacksmith and asked for his assistance on
how she might get to Cutter Gap. The blacksmith pointed to a man named Ben
Pentland, and he's traveling to Cutter Gap to deliver mail. When Christy asks Mr.
Pentland if she can accompany him there he tells her that he's taking the whole
seven-mile journey by foot. Christy hesitates at the thought of walking such a
long distance but she figures it's worth it. Mr. Pentland at first refuses to let her
go with him but he comes around and lets her follow him to Cutter Gap. As they
are taking their long journey they strike up a conversation about what Cutter Gap
is like. Before they know it they come up to the property of a man named Jeb
Spencer. Mr. Pentland yells out warning them of his and Christy's presence so
they wont end up being greeted with a rifle shot. Mr. Pentland has Mr. Spencer
come down to introduce him and his family to Christy. While they are introducing
their selves, they are interrupted by Dr MacNeill having to perform an operation,
for an injured man. Dr. MacNeill is the only Doctor around for fifty miles, Jeb
informs Christy. When Christy finally reached Cutter Gap she
collapsed in the arms of the new minister David Grantland. The next morning
Christy awakens to walk around and explore Cutter Gap. As she views the
breathtaking scenery she gets filled with so much joy
