I can still remember vividly the last night lying on the beach. The sky was fully strewn with stars and the salty sea breeze gently touched my face. It had been the most meaningful eight days in my life. Now, I・ve become a mature young woman rather than a timid little girl.
During my first spring break after I came to America, another International student and I joined a :kayaking/camping trip; to Baja, California with my science teacher, Bryan. We understood neither :camping; nor :kayaking;, and naively thought we would stay in fine hotels for eight days. Ultimately, we realized why we were the :only two girls; on this trip. However, this unexpected :accident; has brought the greatest change in my life. I・ve gained the strength to accomplish my goals and the beliefs that develop my values.
On an awful windy day, we spent the whole afternoon kayaking to another island. I had pushed the paddle with a great reluctance with my partner・s left-and-right commands. The only thing to do was to paddle, paddle, and PADD
. . .
I believe that all life is sacred and equal, so I became a vegetarian. At night, we shivered in the sleeping bags filled with sand. However, within a twinkling of an eye, my belief in science, and also in myself, kept me going. Taking what I・ve learned from this trip, I・m ready to face the challenges of college as well as in the rest of my life. I consider it the greatest turning point in my life. At the moment right before I stepped my foot into the fire, I almost withdrew from the fear of burning my foot. It would still be killed for our dinner at the end no matter what I did. During the eight days, we all had to dump everything from the portable toilet into the ocean. He asked me what my goal for the future was while we began the last day of :hell paddling; as we called it.
Moreover, I・ve learned independence as well as teamwork.
One day, Bryan caught a fish and put it on the beach where it struggled with weakening strength. However, there can also be ways that you and I never think.
Once my teacher said, :The best things always happen by accident,; which for me was the Baja trip.
