Christianity and the Revolutionary War
The colonists of the Revolution era had three choices. They could have chosen to be patriots, people willing to fight and die for liberty. They could have been loyalists, willing to die to remain faithful to the king of England. The last option was not to make a definite choice between the two sides. Just as the Loyalists rejected the idea of freedom from Britain, some reject the freedom that Christ gives from sin. Like the colonists, they have a plan for action. "Other people can do the work," they say. They truly live by "taking up their cross daily" and following Jesus. However, that struggle is not against flesh and blood. They fight on, but cannot see that in the end, they will loose. They have heard the message, and yet do not believe. No, it is against principalities and the powers of the air. Some people give their hearts to Christ and live passionately for him. In our fight for Christianity, we are truly in a struggle. "I am fine here watching the battle because I'm safe either way. Lost souls are just recruits, waiting to be enlisted by them in the Lord's army. In some cases, they will do anything to defeat the cause of Christianity and everyone representing it.
