Lord of the Flies :Nature vs. Nurture
Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, shows how children would act if placed in an environment without any rules or guidance. It conveys that everyone needs guidance and help in their lives. Without them society would crumble and would end up like the disaster in the book. The children in the Lord of the Flies have conflict and it is basically always n the format of the peaceful, intelligent and "sane" children against the wild, rough and insane children. The one peaceful side tends to show the signs of nurturing similar to what was present back in their everyday lives. In contrast, the other group was much more keen on nature and hunting. These children wanted to have no part of the other group and were guilty of both murders that occurred on the island. If everyone on the island had been like the nurturing group, the children could have established a very organized civilization. When the boys first crash-landed on the island they still showed signs of being nurtured. They still had the views and principles of their old land and society. Ralph and Piggy seemed to be the only two children that enforced or still obtained the nurturing mentality throughout the course of the book. Jack and the rest of his clan seemed to d
He did not wish to get immediate pleasure and fun from hunting and eating the rewards. He had lived with his Aunt before landing on the island. Jack was on top of the sow, stabbing downward with his knife. They also began to be quite vicious and violent with the other people on the island. Ralph also was sort of like a mother to many of the other people on the island. Throughout the book he seemed to be the source of guidance. The scene where the tribe kills the sow paints a wonderful yet vicious picture of these children's mind or mentality: Here, struck down by the heat, the sow fell and the hunters hurled themselves at her. The nurturing group on the island ended up to be Ralph, Piggy, Simon, before he was murdered, and Samneric. He does not realize that some people had become so barbaric and immature that they only consider themselves when dealing with a problem. The nature, not the nurturing, group was the dominating force on the island. He realized that the group needed to build shelters and keep a fire going to signal passing boats. Piggy was a very innocent child who was somewhat husky and had asthma. It included the majority of the children, as it appeared to be more fun and safer option. Roger found a lodgment for his point and began to pus till he was leaning with his whole weight. The spear moved forward inch by inch and the terrified squealing became a high-pitched scream.
