Freedom of Speech

             In Philadelphia on July 4, 1776, Thomas Jefferson along with fellow high ranking government officials wrote the Declaration of Independence. This article till this day serves as our guideline of set boundries and rights of freedom. One amendment in particular, the first states the following : Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. What this amendment states is that the government cannot set boundries on religion, freedome of speech in press or in media. That is why today in this great county America there are many different religions assembled becuase the citizens of this country may establish religion without problems or the government not complying with the religion. This amendment also goes for the media world. Music, movies, television, and newspapers are all affected by the first amedment because the first amendment states that you have freedome speech and press which means that you are alowed to be as creative or outgoing in the media and are alowed to publish your opinions in news papers.
             The first amendment states a freedom of speech law that alows for any given United States citizen to say what he or she chooses to say in the media or in the press. One particular event comes to my mind when thinking about the First Amendment would be when hip hop star Marshal Mathers (better known as Eminem) was looked down appon by the governemnt and society when his lyrics caused much controversy in the media after his lyrics about homosexuality and murder where exposed to the public through his first and second compact discs.
