Brave New World
The differences between Huxley's World State and the United States today both have varying characteristics. Many people would say that living in Huxley's environment would be a nerve-racking, bottomless life. The people of Huxley's world lived predetermined lives and are free to nothing, not even themselves. This comes to my point of the class and racial prejudice of Brave New World. In Brave New World people are "born" into a class such as Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, or Epsilon. These classes are structured as they appear. Alpha, possess more leadership skills, and a creative thought process, while the Epsilon class consists of those who are destined to become manual laborers. These classes are manipulated throughout there stages of "birth" through such processes as the Bokanovsky, which is a process which shocks an egg, allowing it to multiply into several other identical embryos. This process is not performed on the Alpha or Beta class however, for this could damage the embryos. This clearly shows the segregation of classes in the World State. Today, in the United States we have applied and written every rule that virtually eliminates the segregation of different people in the world today
These laws help us operate everyday life, and help us operate in an orderly fashion. People are encouraged to engage in intimacy with many partners rather than just one, for this might result in strong feelings for one another. In the United States, many people buy things that make them happy and sometimes that make them a feel of false sense of satisfaction. The one person in this book that realizes this actually loses his sanity and hangs himself. This comes only after she was exclusive with the same man for a couple of months. To compare the World State and the United States in the form of class and prejudice would be extremely absurd, since they are complete opposites. Government control and intervention plays a large part, more so than in the U. A consumer is the most important person in society, and there is a consumer in everyone. He is so distraught at the fact that Lenina is unable to return the affection that he feels for her that he realizes what power the World state yields over its people. They happen every day and are an everlasting commitment in which two people are bonded together in holy matrimony. One does not marry, for such terms as mother and father are considered cussing, and immoral. So although pleasure and self-indulgences are different to everyone, they are necessary tools in life in which we yearn and expect things from.
