Heroes archetypes - movie comparison
Heroes are often thought of by society as persons who do extraordinary things, such as saving the lives of people or accomplishing great things that benefit many. However, there are many different types of heroes and a hero, as he or she goes on his or her personal quest to accomplish their goal, their stature in life changes. There are many types of heroes in literature and in the media, which everyone can see and recognize. They are the orphan, wanderer, warrior, martyr and the magician. A hero can start in any stage, and can also skip a few of the stages, but the ultimate goal of a hero is to achieve the status of magician. However not all heroes achieve this final goal. Anyone can be a hero, the process of becoming one can be different, but the final result is the same, if ever achieved. In the movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher 's Stone, the character Ron Weasley is quite comparable to Todd Anderson, a character in the movie Dead Poets Society. The two boys are similar in several aspects and different in others. Both the characters started their journey to discover themselves while they were in the wanderer stage of the hero archetypes. However, after achieving that stage, Ron becomes a warrior hero archetype, while
Ron Weasley, is a wanderer in the beginning if the movie because of his need to be separated from his brothers. While some of the qualities that Todd experiences in the next stage, he does not fight or wants to win at all costs as Ron does. The major part of Ron's warrior self is shown in the life-sized chess game. He found the courage to do that kind of sacrifice when he whole family was accepting him to become like his popular and smart brother. Both characters do achieve, in the end of the movie, the stage of martyrs, but not the stage of magician. Ron finds himself in his unselfish sacrifice. He prepares for this in assisting in Hermione's research in on the mysterious but dangerous Voldermort. He makes himself apart from the other students in the Welton Academy. This is the unknown to him for he has no idea what to expect from his new friends or roommate. In the case of Todd Anderson in the movie Dead Poets Society, Todd is also a wanderer in the beginning of the film. In the beginning of the movie, Ron blushes whenever someone says "another Weasley?" when they see him. Both Ron and Todd showed themselves to be martyrs at the end of the movie. Both boys finish in movies as martyrs, for both realize that sometimes it takes sacrificing themselves to create a common good. Todd rarely says anything in the whole movie, not even to assert his values. Ron, from the movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher 's Stone, and Todd, from the movie Dead Poets Society, are very similar characters.
