Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome

Munchausen’s syndrome is very quickly becoming the modern day, similar to the witch-hunts in the Dark Ages. This syndrome was first described in 1977 by Meadow. Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome is also know as MBPS, it is described as one of the most harmful forms of child abuse.

Why do parents have to harm their children in the most harmful way? Researchers say MBPS is a parenting disorder where parents make their children get certain symptoms, while they are trying to perform this, the child gets unnecessary medical tests and surgical procedures. More than 98% of MBPS cases involve the mothers. Many of these people that harm their children in this way have a background in a medical or health-care setting.

Typically it seems, that the MSBP parent is on a misguided mission to feel special, to get a lot of attention from people, friends, family and the community, as the heroic parent of a tragically ill child. Other parents crave a major relationship with the doctors. It is also suspected that these parents have had abuse towards them at some point in their early life so they think that this is a way to hide their past. The most common mode of symptoms of inducement in MBPS involves seizure, failure to thrive, vomiting, diarrhea, asthma, allergies, and infections. Jobs are lost, reputations are ruined for life, and healthy children are ripped from their homes by strangers, giving them devastating and unbelievable emotional scars, which will be with them for the rest of their lives.

All it takes is for one doctor to accuse a parent, as having MSBP and it does not matter what the truth may be. Behind closed doors, she may scrub the child’s skin with oven cleaner to cause a terrible blistering rash that lasts for months. They might secretly place a drop of blood in the child’s urine specimen, and then appear traumatic at the lab results that alarm the unsuspecting physicians and nurses. It does not matter whether or not the parent actually has MSBP. Once that label is publicly with a person, whether it is true or not, it will be with them for life and nothing will be able to make the scars go away. There are also many more ways to detect Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome. Since it takes many years of illness for the doctors to finally get the truth, it is not surprising that this form of child abuse has a death rate of 9%.

The parents acting skills can match these of a veteran performer, which can mislead the most skillful physicians. 5 million cases reported child abuse less than one thousand are identified as MBPS. All they need is their judgments on how they could have this syndrome. The poorly defined guidelines of Munchausen’s by Proxy Syndrome make it an ideal way to publicly humiliate and destroy someone’s reputation and life.
